Huge congratulations go out to the coach and players of the Takoma Thunder, an IMPACT-sponsored U14 boys’ team playing in the Takoma Soccer league. They’ve had an incredible run this year! Here’s a list of their accomplishments:
2023 MD U14 Presidents Cup Champions
2023 Eastern Regional U14 Presidents Cup Finalist
2023 National Presidents Cup Semifinalists.
After beating several more highly resourced teams to become Eastern Regional finalists, they qualified for the National Presidents Cup tournament in Wichita, Kansas. Thanks to a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $10,000, the boys were able to fly to Wichita to participate in the tournament representing the state of Maryland. The team has been together since 2013, all the while being coached by Walter Medrano with his wife Jesenia serving as manager.
Walter shared these heartfelt words about his players and the experience: It’s a family. It’s a brotherhood. The chemistry they have is amazing. They’ve been developing as people through soccer. They look out for each other on and off the field. The trip brought us together even more.
