For many families, purchasing back-to-school supplies is a significant challenge each summer. Often, the outlay of money can take away from daily necessities or from funds allocated for bills. The nonprofit organization Teach For America says that “the high cost of school supplies poses a challenge to many parents and impacts students during back-to-school season and beyond.”
On July 27, 277 backpacks (with school supplies inside) were given out to families living in the Long Branch community of Silver Spring. Backpacks were available for all ages—from elementary to high school. Thanks to generous donations from CPBC members and local business Innovation Mechanical, backpacks and school supplies will continue to be given out through August.
