Film and Discussion of “And She Could Be Next”

March 25, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

In honor of Women’s History Month, we will be viewing and discussing online part I of the documentary “And She Could Be Next.”
Filmed throughout 2018 and into 2019, by a team of women filmmakers of color, the documentary features a dynamic slate of history-makers including: Stacey Abrams (GA), Rashida Tlaib (MI), Lucy McBath (GA), Veronica Escobar (TX), Maria Elena Durazo (CA), and Bushra Amiwala (IL). The film also follows the incredible “hidden figures” of the movement–women of color organizers without whose work, nothing would be possible.
In a polarized America, where the dual forces of white supremacy and patriarchy threaten to further erode our democracy, a game-changing transformation is happening at the grassroots. This documentary shows us a defiant group of women of color–as candidates and organizers–who are harnessing the political power of this New American Majority.

This program year, IMPACT’s “Film and Discussion” series is focused on cross-racial solidarity. The purpose of each film is to understand each other’s struggles, histories we haven’t been taught, and how these topics connect to our pursuit of justice and liberation today. This series builds on our June 2020 webinar Building a Multi-Racial Movement: Challenges + Promises. Watch that webinar here: https://impactsilverspring.org/building_justice/
