Impact Now! 2017
As one of the most diverse local jurisdictions in the nation, Montgomery County is well-regarded for its commitment to diversity, and creating a welcoming and inclusive place where everyone can thrive. And yet, the socio-economic conditions reflect a troubling trend common throughout the nation – a growing wealth gap, and a strong and persistent correlation between race and ethnicity, and those living in poverty. The unfortunately reality is that many people of color are struggling to achieve a basic quality of life.
At this year’s IMPACT NOW event, we will explore historical and structural racism as a root cause of these disparities. Each year, IMPACT Now! convenes hundreds of people from throughout IMPACT Silver Spring’s diverse network to lift up a shared vision of a thriving multi-cultural community. This year, we will begin a community conversation on steps we can take to achieve racial equity in Montgomery County
For IMPACT NOW! 2017, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Yanique Redwood as our keynote speaker. In addition to her role as President and CEO of the Consumer Health Foundation (CHF), Yanique has been a leading voice in bringing racial equity to the forefront in the philanthropic sector across the region. She does so through the CHF Game Changer Blog, invited speaking engagements, and in her role as co-chair of the Racial Equity Working Group of the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers. Yanique is also an adjunct faculty member at University of Maryland School of Public Health where she teaches doctoral-level courses on health equity and health policy.
Registration is required and early registration is encouraged as seats are expected to fill up quickly.
